castability
I love to start here. A really good headshot can clearly communicate your character type straight away.
So the more specific we can define your type-the more successful the headshot!
Name a few character types that suit you. The more specific, the better.
Wardrobe
Bring a variety of colors, necklines, and layering options-for texture. Bring at least one neutral. The first few minutes of your session we will talk about your character type and narrow down which option would photograph best and communicate your type!
color
This one is different for every skin tone! Think about what color gets you the most compliments. But in general, you can’t go wrong with rich jewel tones, and large patterns (like stripes). When in doubt, go neutral or complement your eyes. White is not taboo in my book! Just make sure the white is not a see-through jersey material. Bre has over 40 backdrop options available at the studio and will coordinate the backdrop with what you are wearing and your skin tone-no need to worry about that! Please avoid any neon—it does not photograph well and often casts bright tones on your neck and face.
NECKLINE
An open neckline will help you look welcoming and refreshed (a v-neck, tank top, square neck, henley or button down are my favorite!)
On the other hand, a turtle neck or higher neckline will communicate polish and sophistication.
materials
A linen, blouse, or knit will photograph better than a jersey fabric.
But for a more laid back character type, a basic jersey t-shirt is just perfect. Consider pairing with a layer like a denim jacket, bomber jacket etc!
also!
No need to worry about what to wear on the bottom for headshots-just be comfy! It is helpful for posing if your bottoms have a loophole or pockets for your hands though! Make sure your clothes are wrinkle free. There will be a clothing rack to hang your clothes on at the studio!
face
women
Wear your everyday makeup - bumped up slightly for camera!
If you tend to get shiny, consider a translucent powder like my favorite one here. Also found at Target.
Metallic eyeshadows do not photograph well.
Eyelashes are always recommended-aim for volume not length. Try to find a natural style like my favorites here. If you have not worn lashes before, don’t worry about it-or at least have a trial run before your shoot to make sure you like the look and can put them on without any problems. Remember to trim your new lashes to the length of your eye line like shown on this amazing eyelash tutorial video at 9:55.
Bring your makeup along for touchups!
men
No need for any makeup-unless you’d like to! If you tend to get shiny, consider a translucent powder like my favorite one here. Also found at Target.
Can you shave in between looks?? YES! There is a restroom to shave in, please bring your shaving supplies.
hair
Don’t come with greasy hair :) No amount of photoshopping can fix it, but my favorite dry shampoo can!
Hair should be styled down for at least one look to show length, but can be changed between looks for more variety. Please remember hair-ties, bobby pins and heating tools if you want to change it up!
Allow a week or so before your shoot for a new color/cut to settle.
Excessive gel will make your hair look greasy and not as fresh.
accessories
Tone jewelry down so that nothing distracts from your face.
Glasses, hats, jackets and cardigans are welcome and can be a strong indicator of character type-especially for film actors.
**For best results with glasses, please remove the lenses to avoid excessive glare.
helpful things to bring!

And that’s it!
Now your job is to not worry! Breathe!
You’re not going to be awkward in front of the camera.
If you forget something, it wasn’t meant to be.

I’m gonna tell you what to do with your hands, direct your facial expressions and be the total goon that I am!
I can’t WAIT for our beautiful friendship to start.
I see you. I know you. I love you.
